A really big hit, in fact.

Chris Evans and Red One wasn’t a huge hit in the cinemas, but it’s done well on Prime Video.

The film, about a hacker who is roped into helping find a kidnapped Santa, couldn’t tempt many people to see it on the big screen, only making $175 million worldwide at the box office.

It also did not review well. We at gave it two stars out of five (key quote: “there’s nothing here to thrill”), while its Rotten Tomatoes score debuted at 32% and has since dropped to 30%.

But it turns out that people are all too happy to watch Red One at home as it is streaming for free. In fact, now that the film has been added to Prime Video for subscribers, people have made it the service’s most-watched film debut.

Variety reports that Red One has been viewed by over 50 million people in its first weekend on Prime Video (long weekend technically, as it’s measured over four days).

Viewers also seem to like the film as well, as Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter (the audience rating) is a much higher 90%.

Some other new Christmas films this year include Gerard Butler’s The Night Before Christmas in WonderlandRichard Curtis’ That Christmasthe ‘sexy snowman’ film Hot Frosty and Lindsay Lohan’s Our Little Secret.

Meanwhile, there’s a load of films (festive and not) being shown on UK TV over the holidays, and we’ve combed through the schedules to list them all in one place.

Red One is available to stream now for Prime Video subscribers, and is still being shown in some cinemas.
