Joker: Folie à Deux has confirmed its streaming release date, and it’s just a couple of days away (in the US at least).

The comic book sequel is already available to buy at home digitally, but Max subscribers will be able to stream it from Friday, December 13. It will then air on HBO the very next day.

In the UK, it is expected to first come to Sky/NOW next year.

The film only released in October, but it did not do well at the box office, setting unwanted records in both its opening weekend and its second weekend.

Reviews of the film were strongly negative, with the Rotten Tomatoes scores currently sitting at 32% from both critics and fans.

In Digital Spy‘s review, we wrote that: “For all of its attempts at bending genres and the out-of-the-box proposition, it nevertheless feels like an empty, lifeless and ultimately unnecessary follow-up to Joker.

“…Ultimately, not even Lady Gaga’s star power and Joaquin Phoenix’s physical commitment can save a movie determined to doom itself… There is an admirable boldness in offering this version of the character, moving away from what made Joker so successful in the first place.

“The ending packs a punch too, with an idea that might have made the whole movie worth it, but by that point it is too little too late.”

Even before the movie bombed both critically and commercially, director Todd Phillips said that he had no plans to make a third film.

“It’s not really where this movie is headed for me,” he said. “I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.”
