Emmerdale has confirmed that Cain and Moira Dingle will feature in Jacob Gallagher’s special episode next week.

The ITV soap will soon air a standalone edition, which focuses on Jacob’s first day on a medical student placement in A&E.

Jacob’s episode focuses on the realities of working with cases of serious injury and other life-threatening emergencies, as he starts to crumble under the pressure.

Cain and Moira’s role in the episode begins when they arrive at the hospital for Moira’s latest appointment.

Moira recently underwent surgery to remove her brain tumour, but she has been told that her treatment should continue as she now needs radiotherapy.

When Moira first arrives at the hospital, she’s distracted to spot Jacob working there. She then heads in to see the radiation oncologist to discuss the treatment plan.

Moira becomes emotional during her mask fitting as she reflects on what’s to come for her.

Meanwhile, Cain befriends elderly patient Henry – and he’s struck by how much this stranger reminds him of his late father Zak.

Moira gets upset when Cain isn’t immediately available to support her after she’s finished with the doctors. Will she fear that history is repeating itself after Cain let her down with a previous appointment?

Emmerdale bosses announced Jacob’s special episode earlier this month.

Joe-Warren Plant, who plays Jacob, said at the time: “When I met with our producer Sophie [Roper], she told me about this hour-long episode dedicated to Jacob’s first day of placement in A&E.

“I was hit with all these emotions. Knowing how many people have this high pressure job for real gave me the pressure to really knuckle down and get it right.

“Tackling this storyline scared me at first, but I feel honoured to know they trusted me enough to tell it. That means such a lot and I feel very honoured.”
