Coronation Street has recast young character Harry Platt.

Carter-J Murphy has been cast in the role of Sarah Barlow’s son and will appear on the show for the first time this week.

Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, shared the news with Digital Spy and other press while discussing the future of his on-screen family.

Life for the Platts will change forever this Christmas as family matriarch Gail leaves Weatherfield for a fresh start. Soap icon Helen Worth is bowing out from the role after 50 years.

Discussing where the family goes from here, Jack laughed: “There’s a lot of us! I didn’t realise that there were so many of us – you know, with the kids as well.

“There are three kids – Lily, Sam and Harry – so there’s mine, Nick and Sarah’s replacements. I’ve got Lily, who’s ‘Sarah’. Nick’s got himself, weirdly! And Sarah’s got me, as she’s got Harry.

“I think they’ve started that, because they’ve just recast the lad who plays Harry. Carter is very, very confident.”

Harry was born on the show in 2016 following Sarah’s ill-fated fling with bad boy Callum Logan.

Since 2017, the youngster has been played by real-life twins Freddie and Isaac Rhodes.

While no official reason has been given for the actor change, soap fans know that it’s standard practice to recast young characters as they start to grow up on screen.

Viewers will see the new-look Harry this week as he plays a role in one of the Platt family’s many secrets.

As Gail and her fiancé Jesse Chadwick gather the Platts together to make an announcement about their future, Harry interrupts the conversation by presenting a fistful of cash that he’s found.

Harry’s discovery threatens to expose the fact that David and Jesse have been in cahoots over Damon Hay’s stolen money, but can they explain themselves?
