Ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s release this weekend, a fourth movie has already been confirmed.

The latest big-screen adventure for the iconic video game character sees him face off against Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves), and has already earned strong reviews.

It is now being reported by Variety that studio Paramount is prepping a follow-up, with a spring 2027 release date likely.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has landed an impressive score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, the consensus saying: “With a double helping of Jim Carrey’s antics and a quicksilver pace befitting its hero, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the best entry in this amiable series yet.”

called it “an action-packed blast from start to finish that should please even the prickliest Green Hill Zone groupies”.

IGN added that “against all odds, the Sonic the Hedgehog movies appear to be getting better as they go”, while  suggested it “possesses enough of the requisite frenetic action sequences and silly jokes to keep small fry entertained while not boring their adult chaperones”.

Early reactions to the film were similarly positive, with some critics labelling the threequel the “best” of the movie series so far.

As well as Schwartz and Reeves, the movie also sees Jim Carrey return as Dr Robotnik, alongside Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Tom and Maddie Wachowski.
