The Prison Break reboot has received an exciting update after landing a pilot order from Hulu.
According to Variety, a pilot episode for the reboot has been ordered by Hulu who confirmed the series was in the development stage back in November 2023.
From Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James, the new show is not expected to include original characters Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The spin-off/reboot will exist in the same universe as the original jailhouse drama while focusing on a new gang of prison inmates.
Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring will executive produce the series alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neal Moritz and James.
The original Prison Break ran for four seasons on Fox, ending in 2009 before being revived in 2017 for a fifth season, with Miller and Purcell returning to their respective roles.
The original series followed Lincoln Burrows, a prisoner who was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. His brother Michael Scofield forms a plan to attempt to break Lincoln out of prison.
Back when it was released, the show proved hugely successful in terms of ratings, picking up a Golden Globe award for best television series for its first season.
Appearing alongside Miller and Purcell were stars Robin Tunney, Peter Stormare, Amaury Nolasco, Marshall Allman, Wade Williams and Paul Adelstein.
Prison Break fans were treated to some exciting news earlier this year when it was announced that for a brand new TV show – a hostage drama titled Snatchback.
Inspired by the true story of a covert intelligence officer, the series, which is yet to receive a release date, will follow a team as they attempt to rescue hostages throughout the world.
