EastEnders will reportedly air a huge explosion and see the return of a classic character for its upcoming anniversary special.
The BBC One soap is currently preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary, with a special live episode set to mark the occasion in February 2025.
The Sun has now reported that the episode will see a huge explosion tear through The Vic, putting the lives of several Walford residents in danger.
While nothing has been officially confirmed by the soap, an insider told The Sun that the dramatic scenes have already been filmed and that some lives are left hanging in the balance.
The publication has also reported that Paul Bradley is set to reprise his role as classic character Nigel Bates for the episode. Nigel was first introduced to fans in 1992 and was last seen in 1998 when he left for Scotland.

Meanwhile, EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw previously hinted that the show’s 40th anniversary could feature the return of classic characters.
“It all depends on the story and where the characters are,” he said when asked if characters from the past would return. “But it has to come from character, it has to come from story.”
He also confirmed the anniversary will be a time to lean into nostalgia, saying: “As we head towards our 40th year, I think the nostalgic element means a lot. Into the autumn and the end of the year, we’ve got quite a few treats coming up.”
